Okay, so you can take your keys out of the bowl and put the red panties away for now - I don't mean that kind!
Swinging your weights has a time and a place for experienced lifters, who are selectively seeking further stimulus or forced reps, however for the general gym goer and certainly for newbies, it's just bad form -Â and it is so common to see.
I've touched on this on many of my social media posts, just watch 'the most butchered gym exercise' series and if you've seen these, you'l know exactly what I'm talking about.
Â
Initially movement generated from the hips or swinging the weight up, removes the tension from the target muscle, even worse is when it is swung/dropped back down with no semblance of a controlled negative/eccentric movement.Â
For an experienced lifter though, it's a little different. They may need that extra assistance to get the stimulus and working through plateaus, so for these instances it's not always about perfect form.
Side note, next time you tell someone there is a time and a place for swinging and they agree, just make sure you're both talking about the same thing first.... or it's going to get REAL awkward.
